Summer 2021 Update
Hello families! Can you believe we are already a week into August? We have been having a great time at summer camp, and our office has been working hard to get everything ready for the upcoming school year, which is just a few short weeks away. Please see below for a summer update.
Supply lists are now posted to our website under a new page called News and Events. The link to our supply lists is also available on our Facebook page. Please take a look and let us know if you have any questions.
Families in PK 3 and PK 4 will be notified shortly of your child's teacher for the fall. Our teachers are also receiving these lists this week.
We are returning to the dress uniform this year. Students in K-8 will need to purchase both gym and dress uniforms for the fall. Lodge's in Albany is our primary uniform provider, and they are aware that we are returning to the dress uniform. PK students do not wear the dress uniform and only need to purchase the gym uniform. Keep in mind that we have a summer and a winter uniform for both gym and dress. Please look under the Current Students tab of our website and read through the uniform code. Lodge's is also fully aware of the requirements of each uniform.
Update on Staffing
This year, our Pre K staff is as follows:
PK 3: Ms. Katlyn and Ms. Colleen
PK 3: Mrs. Collins and Ms. Heather
PK 4: Mrs. Leverone and Mr. Thoma
PK 4: Mrs. Piperata and Ms. Liz
As mentioned above, families will be notified shortly of your child's teacher. All of our teacher contact info is located on our website if you wish to reach out to the teacher. Otherwise, you can expect to hear from your child's teacher as we move closer to our Meet and Greet Day (see below).
Anticipated Guidance from NYSDOH and NYSED
I know many families are wondering about what the fall will look like. Unfortunately, at this time the New York State Department of Health has not yet released their updated guidance for Fall 2021. We are extremely frustrated by this, as we are unable to fully begin preparations for the fall and are unable to communicate fully our plans for the fall, until such time as we receive this guidance from the State. We remain hopeful that the guidance will come in the next week so that all schools have sufficient time to prepare for the start of the school year.
We anticipate that most policies and procedures from last year will remain unchanged in the new guidance. Masks will still need to be worn when social distancing cannot be maintained, hand hygiene and our cleaning/disinfecting policies and the completion of the daily health screening requirement will all remain as is. We are anticipating a switch from 6 feet to 3 feet in terms of social distancing, and possibly a better system for determining when a quarantine is required. We remain in the dark about what the actual guidance will say until it is actually released, but have been told that this guidance from NYSDOH will be published in line with the current CDC guidance.
We anticipate offering most if not all specials for the coming year, and we are hopeful for a return to the lunchroom. We are also hopeful to be able to bring back after school activities. This will, of course, depend on what the guidance allows us to do.
Once we have the NYSDOH guidance, we will immediately begin the process of amending our Reopening Plan and will communicate any changes to you and post our updated plan to our website.
We anticipate that the arrival/dismissal procedures will look very similar for the fall, since the anticipated guidance will likely continue to preclude visitors from entering the building while school is in session (visitors are defined as anyone who is not a student or staff member). We are considering a few changes to the procedure, and once we have the new guidance will communicate the updated procedures for arrival/dismissal to you.
We will be offering aftercare for the duration of the school year, and will be offering vacation camps again during the three school breaks (anticipated days are 12/27-12/30, 2/22-2/25, and 4/19-4/22. Information for each camp will be sent out approximately one month prior to the start of the camp.
As we did last year, please continue to send in a full water bottle, a morning snack, and a lunch for your child. If your child attends aftercare, please send in an afternoon snack as well. We anticipate that the PK students will be eating in their classrooms as we did last year. We are hopeful that the new guidance, once released, will allow us to return students in grades K-8 to lunch in the cafeteria.
We are currently seeking volunteers to assist us with monitoring lunch and recess, and would welcome volunteers in other areas as well. Lunch typically runs from 11:15-12:30, although our schedule won't be finalized until after we have the new NYSDOH guidance. If you are available to help us, please call our office or email us. Thank you for your help and support of our school!
Wednesday, August 25th Open House 5-7 pm for prospective students. This is an event for families who have yet to enroll and are interested in learning more about the school. Please help us by promoting this event to those you know who may be interested. We will be posting the Facebook event shortly, so please share that event on your social media to help us reach a wider audience. Thank you in advance for your help with this.
Wednesday, September 8th Meet and Greet Day 11 am to 1 pm. Families will have the opportunity to come drop off your child's supplies, meet your child's teacher, and check out their classroom. We are awaiting the NYSDOH guidance, but anticipate that we will be scheduling families for a specific time on this day in order to minimize overcrowding in the hallways and classrooms. More information will follow once we have our updated guidance from NYSDOH, so please keep an eye out for a posted Facebook event and follow up email with more information about this day.
Thursday, September 9th - First Day of School for all students!!!!
